Gabri Christa’s experimental documentary Sheila will be screened in Canada as part of Broad View International Film Festival’s program of Dance Shorts on Friday, November 8th at 9:00pm.

The Department of Dance, Drama and Film at Kenyon College welcomes guest artist Gabri Christa for a series of events Sept. 22 - 23. On Sunday September 22nd, Gabri will be leading a screendance seminar followed by a screening of her experimental documentary short Sheila and artist discussion. On Monday September 23rd, Gabri will teach a film and motion workshop.

Gabri Christa will show her films Kankantri and Sheila and will teach a screendance workshop at the University of The West Indies during the NEW WAVES! INSTITUTE, a gathering of dance artists, scholars, teachers, students, and leaders in the field of dance who embody the depth and spirit of contemporary dance and performance practice in the Caribbean and its Diasporas. In an organizing principle of ‘Emancipation’, New Waves! participants connect in essential ways that alters and brings out light in one another. Founded and Directed by Makeda Thomas.

Gabri Christa’s experimental documentary Sheila will be presented at the 2023 Women Over Fifty Film Festival (WOFFF2023) as part of their Experimental program. All 54 selected films for WOFFF will be available online from September 9, 2023-October 9, 2023 (Early Bird Festival Pass available until August 23rd). A not yet revealed curated selection of films will be screened in person at Depot, Lewes on Saturday September 23rd.

Gabri Christa’s new experimental documentary Sheila will be presented at the 2023 DC Black Film Festival as part of the “This Is What You Came For!” film block. The in-person screening will take place on Friday, August 18th at 5:10pm at The Miracle Theatre. Sheila will then be available online starting August 21st at 3:30 pm.

Gabri Christa’s experimental documentary Sheila will be presented at the 2023 Denton Black Film Festival as part of their “When We Move” program screened live at Alamo Drafthouse Theater 8 on Saturday, January 28, 2023 2:30 PM CST. Sheila will then be available for online screening until February 6th.

Gabri Christa is guest of honor at the 21st Annual Dance Camera West Festival, an international festival held in Los Angeles that presents the best dance films from around the world. On Saturday January 21st, Gabri will be leading a workshop and the festival closes with a presentation of Gabri’s films including her experimental documentary short Sheila and an artist discussion.

Gabri Christa’s experimental documentary Sheila was presented at the 2022 CLIMAX Critics Awards. Sheila is a semi-finalist under the category “Best Dance or Poetic Film” and quarter-finalist under the category “Best Original Screenplay”.

Gabri Christa’s new experimental documentary Sheila will be presented at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival. The festival will take place in person from November 1st-6th in York, UK and virtually from November 1st-30th.

Gabri Christa’s new experimental documentary Sheila will be presented at the Urban MediaMakers Festival as part of their “Short Films: Women Directors” official selection. The hybrid festival will take place from October 10th-23rd virtually and in person in Gwinnett County and Atlanta, Georgia.

From Saturday to Wednesday March 12th-16th, Gabri Christa’s new experimental documentary Sheila and the 2020 Moving Body - Moving Image Festival: Aging & Othering will be presented as part of the Creative Programme at Creative Brain Week in Dublin, Ireland. Creative Brain Week is a Global Brain Health Institute initiative taking place across the digital and physical Campus of Trinity College Dublin.

Gabri Christa's new film "Sheila" has its world premiere at ScreenDance Miami’s 2022 Festival, featured on January 22nd as part of the “Short Films: Open Call Official Selections From Abroad” at the Perez Art Museum Miami, and on January 28th as part of the “Projection Wall Screening 2” selection at New World Center’s Projection Wall at Soundscape Park. “Sheila” is an experimental short bio doc starring Sheila Rohan, one of the founding dancers of Dance Theatre of Harlem.
